GRU Competition Guidelines – Men's Division 3

1. Club and Player eligibility shall follow USA Rugby Eligibility Regulations.

2. All clubs are responsible for honoring the established schedule.  Any changes to the schedule must be approved by the GRU.

3. If one team can not field 15 players for a game, that team will forfeit the game but a game with equal numbers on each side should still be played.  If neither team can field 15 players, the game will be recorded as a forfeit to both teams.  A game with equal numbers on each side should still be played.

4. If a game is forfeited the score will be recorded as a 40 - 0 bonus point win for the non-offending team.  If both teams must forfeit the game will not be counted in the standings.

5. If a team can not honor its game, that team must notify the opponent in a timely manner.  “Timely” is defined as 1) in time to inform the referee so he/she may be reassigned, and 2) in time so the offended club does not incur any game related costs.  The offending team will be responsible for any costs incurred by its opponent because of non-timely notification.

6. Any team that no-shows on game day without timely notification to their opponent, will be fined $250 by the GRU and will be responsible to repay all game related costs of its opponent.

7. The following scoring system will advance teams from Pool Play:

4 points for a win
2 points for a tie
1 Bonus point for four tries or more
1 Bonus point in a loss if you lose by 7 points or less
-1 point for forfeits

The tie breakers are:

1.     Standings Points
2.     Number of Total Wins
3.     Head-to-Head Record Between Teams (as measured in Standings Points)
4.     Point Differential
5.     Points For (Overall)
6.     Points For Between the Tied Teams
7.     Tries Scored
8.     Standings Points Minus the First Match
9.     Standings Points Minus the First and Second Match
10.  [As with 8 & 9 continuing onward]

8. If a playoff game is tied at the end of regulation time, the following tiebreaker will be used:
If the score is tied at the end of regulation time in a playoff game, the two teams shall play two full ten-minute halves of overtime;
If after the 20 minutes of overtime the score is still tied the team that has scored the most tries shall be declared the winner.
If the try count should be even then the teams shall play consecutive 5 minute periods of overtime with the team that scores first (sudden death) being the winner.
Teams shall change ends after each period.

Game Day Procedure

1. The Game Roster Form and other game related forms must be completed by each team.

2. At the conclusion of play, the referee will fill in the score, sign the forms and return the completed forms to the winning team.

4. Any disciplinary problems may be reported on the Game Roster Form at this time and a formal report from the referee should then be filed.

5. Any protest must be indicated on the Game Roster Form on game day.  Protests not indicated on the Game Roster Form on game day will not be heard.
