GRU 7's joins forces with the Georgia Games

GRU 7's joins forces with the Georgia GamesAfter great success last year, the GRU 7's looks to expand the tournament this year by partnering with the Georgia Games.

It has taken a while to get the logistics in place this year and some things must be put to bed yet but we are looking forward to increased success this year and in the years to come.

These things we know for sure:
1)  The tournament will be held June 7, 2014 on three fields at Fowler Park in Douglasville, GA
2)  There will be three divisions of play - Mens, Womens and HS men.
3)  The GRU will pay $100 towards the entry fee of $200 for any of its members.
4)  We are in the process of finding a party location closer to Atlanta.

More information will be sent as it becomes available.

Both Emory University and Georgia Tech Rugby will be hosting a Brumbies Rugby 2-Day Advanced Coaching Course which will be held at the Georgia Tech campus in Atlanta Georgia on the weekend of the 11th & 12th of January 2014.

The course will be conducted by Brumbies Academy and Commercial IP Manager - Nick Leah.

This course is the first of a range that Brumbies Rugby will be rolling out over the next 12 months.  Specifically, this course broadly introduces all the interdependent variables and networks that drive performance, while utilizing case study examples from different environments, which often presented alternate methods of intervention, but with the same desired outcome.  While the Brumbies transformation from 13th place basket-case in Super Rugby in 2011 to 2nd in 2013 with the most inexperienced squad in Super Rugby as the primary case study.

The course provides a whole range of easily implementable tips that are relevant to all levels of rugby

The course costs USD205.00 to register for the 2-Days and USA Rugby have confirmed that any attending coach will attract 10 Coach Professional Development Credits towards their re-accreditation.  Please register here

USA Rugby Concussion Clarification

In a letter to all referees and coaches, USA Rugby’s Dr. Harry Laws issued information to clarify that there is no “Brain Bin” for any USA rugby competitions except Elite international level contests. Referees and coaches are directed to follow IRB Regulation 10, which in summary requires:

All players with suspected concussion where there is no appropriately qualified person is present to diagnose concussion must be removed from the field of play and
not return to play or train on the same day and should be reviewed by an appropriately qualified person and then should complete the graduated return to play
protocol described in the IRB Concussion Guidelines
; and

Where concussion is diagnosed, a player must be removed from the field of play and not return to play or train on the same day and must be guided through a dedicated return to play protocol.

For more information on this matter, please reference: http://usarugby.org/concussions/irb

Referees and coaches are also encouraged to view IRB’s Concussion Management modules at:

Men's Competitions Begin

2013-9-24
USA Rugby's new competition model begins this Saturday for most GRU members.  There will be new responsibilities for clubs to master and there are sure to be problems to iron out with the online system.  Everyone needs to help make it work.  The scoring system will be new as well.  A version of the Super Rugby Scoring System will determine which teams advance from Pool Play.  The GRU website will link to the USA Rugby Competitions system so all results will be readily available to all in a central location.  The Men's competitions are already available and the women's competitions will be available soon.  Try the new forum to share your experience with the new online system.  Click Here
